Week 2: Understanding Comics

I've spent a lot of time in my life reading web comics and thinking about writing my own. However, I've never been able to figure out how to start with one or where to go with it. This type of art seems to come very easy to some people and it is just not like that to me. It seems like it should be easy for my, being an animator and since comics are not far from being animation themselves. But, for some reason, this type of art eludes me.
This book, Understanding Comics, was a great read as it helped break down the process of making a comic, which I very much enjoyed. There is still a lot I need to learn about how to make a comic and a lot more practice trying to make one for me to really say I get it. But, this book gave me a good starting point with which to jump off with.

Another reason it was a great read was because it was very uniquely layout. It seems almost common sense to write a book about how to make a comic, in comic form. But, a lot of writers might not of thought to present the information in this way, it makes this book just that much better. Not only is it information, but it's entertaining to read. Instead of just being boring fact after boring fact, I wan to keep reading because it is displayed in a very interesting way. Also, while it explains concepts about how to so certain things in a comic, it is show a hands on example of that point.

I enjoyed reading this and would recommend it to any starting or aspiring comic artist. :)
